Presentations?
Why do teachers/professors require presentations? Don't they know some people suffer from various types of anxiety disorders and this only causes undue stress? What is the academic value in a presentation? Do they honestly think we care what the person next to them did their project/report on? But what about those that aren't going to the busines world?

- the presentation is more for the student who is reporting than the students listening. the teacher is assured that the student learns someting from the subject and it may only be the topic that the reporter was assigned.
- Because in the business world, if you're pitching a new idea or even summarizing sales projections in a board meeting, how do you expect to do so without some form of visual presentation? Most business are using Microsoft Powerpoint which is why in college you're required to create powerpoint presentations. Also setting up a presentation shows your outlining and organizational skills.
- Being able to express yourself in a public setting is an education standard for most states. It's also an easy way for teachers to grade students. They just watch the presentations instead of having to actually grade a paper. If a student lets a teacher know about anxiety, they can usually find ways to help them. For example, I know a 3rd grade teacher who would let a student present oral reports with his back to the class. This helped his anxiety and eventually, he was comfortable enough to do it correctly. A lot of people hate public speaking (myself included), but it's not a bad skill to have. Just focus on the information you are presenting and not yourself.
- There are a million different situations in which you would use your public speaking skills. I'm not going to even try to list them. Get over your nerves/fear and make it short and sweet.
